ORGANISATIONS
Home Based Businesses tend not to join organisations. This is probably because of three reasons:-
1.The cost
2.It is often difficult to attend events (due to family commitments)
3.There is no perceived value

But the benefits of joining organisations for Home Based Businesses can be enormous:-

• You have other business operators to network with
• They reduce the isolation of being a Home Based Business
• There is varied assistance and benefits organisations and their members can offer each other
• There is a timely dissemination of information that the Home Based Business operator often does not readily access
• Acquisition of skills from planned workshops held by many organisations
• Motivation and enlightenment from speakers
• Websites with Forums or chat rooms allow members to communicate with each other and build on relationships.
  

It is a good idea to belong to at least three organisations. One could be industry based; one specialising in networking; and one for special interests e.g. gender specific or marketing. Keep a track on what benefits you gain from each and at the end of the year drop one that offers you the least and try a new one. If you ‘put in’ to an organisation (attend meetings regularly; take an active committee role etc) you will reap many rewards – but if you do nothing, nothing will happen!
