There has always been a debate on whether you should discount product or add value to it. The most sensible business solution is to add value. However, we live in a society where we expect to receive discounts, sales and ‘freebies’, so it is not surprising to see some entrepreneurial Home Based Business operators look at ways they can provide a quality service and/or product yet still be able to provide the ‘freebie’ or discount.

In this age of information, Internet Marketers have honed the skills of offering ‘freebies’ and have produced some really successful business platforms based on this concept. Your HBB would benefit by following the system:-

  1. Write an article on something that is topical as it relates to your business e.g. coaching. Make sure it has some excellent information and tips or guidelines in it (it must be perceived to be of value). At the end of the article write a short but powerful signature to describe you, the author, your business and what solutions you offer. Include a link to your website or an email (this should not be more than about 300 characters – including spaces) that will direct the reader to a free e-book. See a sample at http://tinyurl.com/n3tc4

  2. Write an e-book of around 20 – 40 pages (many are up to 100 pages and I have read some that are in excess of 300 pages). This e-book should give good information and should include links to various places within your website or even to other websites that you think could add value to your readers. The most common way to present this is as a pdf file. There is a good indexing system within the pdf programme to make it easy for readers to negotiate your e-book.  See an example of a PDF e-book, following on from the article (sample above) at

  3. Involve the Reader - Readers should now have enough interest in what you do to investigate your website more thoroughly and if your website is interactive and allows them to make comment; ask for assistance; receive a regular newsletter (e-zine) and purchase online – your business will start to move forward. You can even further ‘add value’ by allowing readers to re-sell your e-book and keep all the profits themselves!

TIPS AND HINTS

  1. If you cannot write articles yourself there are many sites that allow you to use other people’s articles. www.articlecity.com You can combine these to create your own e-book. Here is an example of how I have done this. http://tinyurl.com/rmhqb

  2. If you use an agent to distribute your articles to dozens of Internet e-zines and websites, you will increase your coverage and reduce your time. An additional benefit is that each time your article is printed somewhere else it contains a link to your site, and search engines read this and place you higher on their lists. Gabogrecan published 8 articles and got nearly 2000 links in three months – it works! The agent Gabogrecan uses is Article Marketer:-
