There has always been a
discussion re formal training versus informal training. Formal
courses are offered through Universities, TAFE Colleges, and
online.
The success of informal training depends widely on who is providing
what. If you take part in seminars, conferences, workshops etc, the
value of what you receive largely depends on the presenter/speaker.
You can check out a speaker on Google - if they receive a lot of
work, Google listings will tell you. You can even ring the
organisations and ask them what the speaker was like...you could be
quite surprised by the answers!
You can also gain valuable knowledge, combined with a caring,
understanding of you and your needs, if you use a mentor or coach.
All of these methods of obtaining knowledge and developing skills,
are of value. It is just up to you to decide what suits your needs
best
